10 Mega-bytes of Free Web Space !!

"Five email addresses and 10 Mega-bytes of free web space", read the ad for my internet service provider. What a dilema. Why would I require five email addresses, am I going to make so many new 'cyber friends' that one wouldnt be enough ? And worst of all, '10Mb free web space'. I pictured this lonely little 'space' on my servers giant computer, sitting empty amongst similar spaces overflowing with exciting information provided by their more imaginative owners. How could I fill my poor little web space ?

Having spent a while surfing the web, I have realised that these little 'spaces' generally fall into one of a small number of catergories. Most seemed to fall into the 'here is a picture of me', 'here is a picture of my best friends', 'click here for a picture of my cat' 'homepage' style (apologies to anyone reading who is has spent hours working on such a page ! I'm sure this works for you, however I dont have a cat or a scanner and the plural in best friends bit was always going to be tricky for me !!!!)

A further group appeared to be made up of a series of links to other sites of interest to the author, football, Tv, Agent Scully from the X-files etc. etc. While this can give quite an insight into the make-up of a person, I wanted to produce something more original, something that is mine and no-one elses. After all why use my 10Mb of 'space' to advertise other peoples sites (although if anyone is planning to use their space in such a way, they are quite welcome to use it to advertise this site, as it will need all the help it can get !!)

Therefore, as I said in the introduction, I decided to take inspiration from Kathyryn Flett, who writes for 'The Observer' newspaper and try and write an ongoing site, explaining all the interesting things that are happening in my life. (although obvious problem number one was going to be the distinct lack of interesting things happening in my life !

Still, while I was in the sixth form and at university I enjoyed writing a daily diary, which I always find very entertaining to look back on. And while my ideas of publishing that would have led to me losing all my friends, now I can speak freely and anonymously (in fact very anonymously if as I suspect noone ever reads this and most importantly fufill the existance of my 10 Mb free space.

For every entry, I will try and find a suitable image to form my 'Picture of the week'
